For many years I traveled and went in search of people I admire in hopes of catching a moment and a scribble. I've had a few lucky encounters.
Rudy Tucich
Rudy Tucich is a drummer from Detroit. His contemporaries include Pepper Adams and Barry Harris. Years ago he was the host of a great show on WDET public radio in Detroit called '52nd Street'.
The Black Rose
I flew to Adelaide this week to see the Trent Parke exhibit The Black Rose at the Art Gallery of South Australia. To describe this as an event I've been anticipating for months would be an understatement.
Light Meters
Light meters are interesting things. At their humble beginnings, they were highly manual devices where the photographer added or removed density filters until the correct exposure was achieved. Now every digital camera has a built-in meter. In the studio, they are invaluable for calculating the number of stops between the highest and lowest luminance levels. They can save valuable time guessing exposure ratios while others wait patiently.
Tweaking the Ludwig 'Questlove' Drumkit
I recently (2013) purchased Ludwig’s Questlove drum kit. My reasons for doing this were primarily around the size and configuration. A four-piece Ludwig, which weighs less than most 14×20 bass drums, was hard to pass-up.
